Physical activity is so important for children, that is why we have teamed up with Early Years Resources to review their Throwing and Catching Kit.
Physical activity can increase children’s self-esteem and not to mention their gross motor skills. These skills go without saying but you can also incorporate other areas of learning into physical activity games.

You can incorporate:
- Communication and language development by using different vocabulary and using the scaffolding technique to build on additional learning
- Personal, social and emotional development by building up their confidence, self-esteem and resilience
- Mathematics by using counting exercises
Throwing and Catching Kit
This throwing and catching kit by Early Years Resources is a great collection of items to encourage gross motor skills for children. It works especially well with the early years (0-5 years) age range.
This kit reminds me of the resources that we used to use back in primary school. Solid and very good quality pieces that are hardwearing and durable. My boys have got no chance against this kit, it is one that will stay with us for a very long time!
The kit includes:

- Weighted scarves x6
- Smooth quoits (rings) x6
- 10cm smooth touch balls x6
- Bean bags x6
- 7cm foam balls x6
- Drawstring kit bag
The kit retails at Β£59.95 exc VAT which you may think is quite expensive but if you are wanting resources that really do last then it is a great price in my eyes. Imagine how many times you replace items bought from pound shops and supermarkets. I know that I have replaced a lot of toys bought from cheaper value shops and it really adds up.
Activities we have tried so far with this kit:
- Throwing the bean bags into a basket
- Throwing the hoops over sticks
- Catching the balls and throwing them to eachother
- Catching the hoops
- Throwing and catching at the same time with a ball and a hoop
Photos of us using the kit
Amongst plenty of other things that we got up to! It turned into a whole afternoon of throwing and catching in different ways and using different objects to incorporate.
We are going to be using this kit a lot, and I will definitely be incorporating more extravagant activities as the boys develop.

You can find Early Years Resources on their website, Twitter and Facebook.
There are some other really great items on their website so make sure you go and have a snoop. If you follow me then you will be aware that we use the tuff spot tray a lot and they have some fab mats that go inside! My personal favourite is the mirrored tuff tray mat!
We hope that we have inspired you to try some simple activities at home which can really improve multiple areas of learning.

What a lovely kit, even if it is expensive to buy if you are going to get the use out of it, it would be worth it. Thank you for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove
It’s definitely not cheap, but it seems like you get an awful lot for your money, and lots of ideas for how to use it all. And I’ve definitely had the experience of buying cheap and buying again, so it’s always better to buy quality items. Sounds like a great kit for the summer holidays! Thanks for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove
Ooh this looks like fun! We had all of these at primary school, made me feel really nostalgic! I love the video, your children look to be having so much fun! #kcacols
Looks like a fab piece of kit. Does seem a little pricey for what it is but I get what youβre saying about the quality. Looks like lots of fun was had.

Some lovely ideas. I should do more with throwing in to baskets and hoops! #KCACOLS
Thanks for all of these tips β my almost 4 year old would love this, just like your two seemed to!
What brilliant ideas!! #SharingtheBlogLove
This is such a good idea – I once did a language crash course and we incorporated throwing a ball into the learning technique because Scientists reckon that when you use both sides of your brain at once the thought patterns become more established and we are more likely to remember what we learn, so this is a great technique for teching kids maths etc. Lovely post! Thanks for linking up and we hope to see you again next time! #KCACOLS
That looks like a great kit, endless fun! #blogstravaganza
My eldest loves bean bags at the minute! xx
