As parents, having toys that can benefit development is a huge plus and can often be the difference between an everyday toy or one that only comes out every few months. Science experiments are a regular occurrence in our home, learning through hands on experiences is key in childhood development.
Beaker Creatures Liquid Reactor Super Lab
Beaker Creatures combine science experimentation with collectible creatures. There are 35 creatures in total to collect. There is 1 creature inside each of the reactor pods; once you have pumped in the water, the reactor pods will start to fizz causing a bubbling reaction; then inside you will find your creature!
Inside you lab you get 15 pieces which are:
- Two beakers
- Two hydroplungers
- Two classification cards
- Two beaker creature reactor pods
- Liquid reactor super lab base (in case of overspill)
- Two double-sided mini posters
- Full size display poster
- A set of tongs and a stir rod
- Experiments guide featuring step by step instructions for five experiments
What the boys thought
The boys have absolutely loved this lab set; the set is really versatile and you can use it to mix many different things.
The first experiments that we did were two including the creature reactor pods. The first one did really well and fizzed like crazy but the second didn’t which was a little disappointing.
This was the first one:

This was the second one:

The first reactor pod was amazing and drew the boys into the experiment very quickly. The second wasn’t all that fantastic, it just kind of sat in the tube disintegrating slowly until it revealed the creature pod.
There were quite a few experiments to try in the experiments guide but we decided to do one of our own too to see how it faired up.
For our next experiment we put blue coloured water in 1 hydroplunger and baby oil in the other hydroplunger. We were experimenting with separation and dense liquids.

Doesnt it just look so pretty! And because we coloured the water blue prior to the experiment, we could clearly see the separation.
The boys had (and are having) a ball with this lab set. There are other experiments that we will be doing soon like colour mixing with water and food colouring.
How this aids child development
- Experimentation and learning through trial and error
- Knowledge and understanding of the world by using various liquids
- Communication and language development by using descriptive commentary
- Reactions and elements
- Mathematics through learning about volume and measurements
- Expressive arts and design by colour mixing
- Understanding liquid density
