We have been looking for a decent map for a while, one that isn’t too in-depth that it’s overwhelming but still has enough on it for us to delve into whilst homeschooling. Maps can bring so much to the table when it comes to children’s development because there are just heaps of information to talk about for each country! Sometimes it can be a bit daunting for us parents and educators too!
Awesome maps have a fantastic way of helping children understand about the world we live in. We got sent the large map and the game cards. What is absolutely brilliant is that the game cards can be played as a game all on their own or be used alongside the map! At the moment we are using the cards with the map.
With thr map you get 150 reusable stickers. The amazing part comes when the sticker is numbered, and if you find that card in the set of cards then it will give you facts about what is on that sticker! I am absolutely blown away by how much thought has gone into creating this! I wish there were more things like this for children. The facts are simple but they stick in your head; Leo has been coming up to me now for a week or two reminding me that polar bears have white fur but black skin. I would never have known that!
We are slowly but surely working our way around the map and cards. I don’t want to rush it because I want Leo to soak in all the information. We absolutely love it, and as an educator I think that these should be in classrooms; as a parent, I can see myself and Leo enjoying this for a long time!
Leo and Mylo have both been enjoying the map so far. Yes, it’s a little grown up for Mylo but he still enjoys using the stickers and trying to recognise the numbers on the map.
Maps and child development
Like I said, maps can bring a lot to the table but it’s important that we know how a children’s learning develops by using one. Here are some areas of learning that will definitely be covered whilst using a map:
Knowledge and understanding of the world
Communication and Language
We were sent these items in order to provide a review. All images and opinions are that of my own.
